Wednesday 18 July - Chateau Chilon, Broc Chocolate Factory, Gruyere

Reluctantly we bid farewell to Peter and Judy this morning and headed south down the Rhone Valley towards Lake Geneva. We had a busy schedule booked in for today, given that we had stayed an extra day in Anzere and were due to arrive at Rita's brother's house in Fribourg that evening. First stop was Chateau Chilon, an old castle on the edge of the lake near Montreaux. I had fond memories of Chateau Chilon from when I first visited it, after a boat ride from Lausanne, on my first trip to Switzerland in 1998. Fortunately, it lived up to expectations again, as shown by the smiles on the faces of my three favourite girls.

From there, we headed north to visit the Cailler chocolate factory in Broc, where we learned the history of chocolate, saw how it was made, and then got to try lots of different samples. Yum. Then it was a short hop over to Gruyère, where we walked around the old village and castle, visited the local shops, and tested the local beer. Then off to Lothar's place in Fribourg where we stayed the night.
