Monday 30 July - drive to Moissac via Vianne, Lavardac and Nerac
We had to take the car back to Moissac today, so we went via Vianne, Lavardac and Nerac on the Baise River, to check out the locks again. Lavardac was the place where we came unstuck last year while going up in the lock, and we wanted to check whether our minds had exaggerated the problems over the year. But the lock was just as deep as we had remembered it, and the bollard on the dock was just as large and smooth as we had thought. But now that we have some longer ropes on board, we have a much better idea of how we will tackle this next time.
The port at Nerac was just as lovely as everyone had told us. We had lunch here near the old Henry IV castle, then went for a long walk around town. Definitely somewhere we want to come back to in the future.
With time running out in the day, we then headed on to Moissac, said hello to Iain and Kaz and then came back to Aiguilon by train. We were met at the train station by the taxi we had previously booked, and then headed back to Buzet with a taxi driver who turned out to be Swiss - he and Rita had a good chat. Had dinner at the port cafe, and met Sara's mum and dad (who live in Nerac) who were helping out as Sara's pregnancy was rapidly advancing.
