Mon 30 May - Sunny, fuel price, drive to Moissac, John and Irene, Valerie
The day dawned sunny, and we prepared for our long drive to Moissac. For various reasons, we decided to do the Moissac trip now rather than later in the season, and catch up with friends and attend to some other business. So we first filled up with diesel (gazole) at Intermarche at 1.81euro/litre. The French government is giving a tax reduction of 15cents/litre (like the Australian government did in the lead-up to the election), but the price of fuel here is still much more than in Australia (about $AUD2.70 per litre). Luckily the Scenic runs on the smell of an oily rag.
We left Auxonne around 0930h and took our usual route via Chalon-sur-Saone, Clermont-Ferrand and Vichy, and arrived in Moissac around 1730h, where we immediately headed to John and Irene's where we would be staying. We had a long chat and drinks and nibbles with them, and later in the evening Rita headed across to catch up with her music friend Valerie.
