Wed 13 Oct - cancel confirmed, 1100 start, drifting, Auxonne C, sunset/moonrise
Overnight, I received an email from Singapore Airlines confirming that my booking for tomorrow has indeed been cancelled. Now I can breathe a sigh of relief!
The morning was mild with no fog, but the colder temperatures overnight had created an interesting display of fallen Autumn leaves on the table on the rear deck.
We made a start at 1100h and as we passed through Ecluse 18 at Heuilley, Rita added our names to the tagging display on the lock wall.
We arrived at Lamarche at lunchtime, but since there was no room to moor there for lunch, we waited until we passed the town and then I cut the engine, and we just drifted down the river while we had lunch, making intermittent adjustments with the bowthrusters to keep us on track and occasionally starting the engine and using the rudder to move us away from the banks of the river.
No other boats came near us for the next hour and we continued to drift. But just after we had finished lunch, one boat arrived from each direction, so we started up again and continued the trip into the last lock before Auxonne. We arrived in Auxonne at 1515h and moored on Pontoon C, our winter mooring location, as seen on this photo from the Port Royal webcam.
That evening we got an unusual conbination of heavenly views; moonrise in the east and sunset in the west.
But by chance, I happened to take a photo of the moonrise through the window of the open side door, and got the reflection of the sunset superimposed over the moonrise. Two for the price of one!
