Tuesday 24 July - scrubbing, deck fittings, Organum concerts, Hot, Napoleon
Just to prove it’s not all beer and skittles over here, today was the third day of preparations for painting Kanumbra, and I spent the morning scrubbing the deck. Not too bad if done before the sun gets too high in the sky, but towards the end of this job it was getting pretty hot.
I then removed most of the deck fittings, so that I could paint under them and get a good finish (having noticed in the past that around the fittings is where the paint starts peeling/flaking first).
Around noon, Rita went uptown to some Organum (medieval music) concerts, while I found some shade and started reading "Napoleon in Russia” about his ill-fated attempt to invade Russia in order to “unite Europe”. Some of his ideas still have currency in some quarters today.
To round off the day, Rita went to a late-night concert for Organum in the Abbaye, while I continued reading.
