Saturday 18 July - market, charger, some rain, AFL, Lauzerte, au Bureau, storm
I finished off the DBA Entry Survey report this morning, while Rita took Frank and Chanthea to the Saturday Market. I then went down to the barge and got a battery charger from Stuart (since I had given up on finding mine). His charger was more sophisticated than mine, and was able to slowly recondition batteries which were totally run down (which mine was!). However, it seemed like it would take at least 24 hours, and Stuart was leaving tomorrow, so I just connected it and hoped for the best. As I was talking with Stuart about the best way to do the charging, we got some rain, which was most welcome.
Around noon, I returned to the house to watch the AFL game between the Hawks and the Sydney Swans (last year’s Grand Finalists). After last week’s demolition of the Dockers, I was expecting a much tougher game, especially with their two big forwards (Franklin and Tippett) back from suspension. However, I was wrong on all counts, with the Hawks defeating the Swans easily 146-57. Two big scalps in two weeks.
In the late afternoon, we went over to Lauzerte for a concert in the old church next to the square. It was a bit of a surprise, since I was expecting “religious” music, but it was an acapella choir of about 20 singing local folk songs. Very enjoyable. However, the seating in the church was rather basic, with traditional wooden pews, which was too much for Frank to endure the entire concert. So he and Rita left early, and Chanthea and I joined them at a local cafe afterwards.
We then headed back to Moissac for dinner and a latin concert (with "el cuarteto Siboney”) at au Bureau. After dinner, Frank and Chanthea went back to the house, while Rita and I returned for the concert (with Stuart and Christine, and Don and Laura). The music was very laid back and enjoyable, but about 11pm the heavens opened, sending the band packing all their electronic gear into their van to avoid damage by the rain. This also dissipated the crowd, most of whom were sitting outdoors in the open. However, our table was under an extendable awning, so we continued drinking and were later joined by the band members. Rita struck up a conversation, while Stuart showed them some of the film he had shot of their performance.
