Friday 24 July - still waiting, AFL, dinner at Andre's
Rita spoke with Frank Jnr (her brother) about Frank Snr, but he was still waiting for news. Frank is still in hospital undergoing tests and we might not know the results until Monday. Until then, everything is on hold.
While we waited around the house, I took the opportunity to watch the AFL game between the Hawks and the Carlton Blues. With Hawthorn in good form and Carlton near the bottom of the ladder, no one really expected it to be a close game, but also no one expected it to be a 138-win to the Hawks, 173-35.
In the evening, we went to dinner with Andre Calvet (who ran the medieval music workshop for the band last year), at his house on the outskirts of Moissac. The older part of the house is circular and built by Andre in the mid-seventies using old materials and old architecture. The inside is very much like a hobbit’s house - lots of small odd-shaped rooms and lots of curios. Very charming. The new downstairs area is more modern and fronting onto a pool, with an outdoor dining area above (where we ate).
Andre’s wife is a specialist caligrapher, who made the Pans on Fire sign for the medieval music workshop last year, and which is now hanging in the new Panyard at Taggerty. For the dinner she made individual placecards, using caligraphy on serviettes (I noticed that everyone carefully ensured that they saved these placecards for posterity, rather than using them to wipe their lips!)
