Saturday 15 June - Le Port, VPN, Speedway

Up late, then succeeded in distracting myself from assignment grading by checking my emails. Replied to a few about visits to the barge later in the year, then started an email to Doug including plans for gigs next year. Decided to go down to Le Port to get a picture of “the beach” to explain what I meant about the place, and while I was taking a picture, I was joined by Rita. So we went in for a coffee, and started talking to the owners who had started Le Port in 2012 but only got a few weeks of trading done before the end of the season. They were very keen to consider the idea of the band playing there next year, so we exchanged contact details and promised to keep in touch.

Did a few assignments, then tried establishing the VPN connection for the Speedway tonight. Could not get the VPN working on the laptop, perhaps because it was using the iPhone as the source of the WIFI signal. So, tried getting VPN connection on the iPhone. After searching for instructions, I got it working OK on the iPhone. Now to see whether it continues to work with the SGP later today. All went OK until the SGP said that streaming had gone “Live”; then the VPN dropped out and would not reboot (maybe lots of other speedway fans trying to watch through Spain?). So I just followed the scores on the Total Speedway app. In the meantime, we went up to Le Port to try and get dinner, but they were booked out – a good sign for next year! When it was time for the SGP Final, I thought I’d try the VPN again. This time it worked immediately, and I was able to watch the Final live, with Australian Chris Holder finishing just behind the winner Jarek Hampel.
