Friday 2 August - Valence d'Agen, Rosa, home to Moissac
A relaxed morning, doing just enough to get to the first lock at Valence d’Agen soon after 9am. But we were not the earliest risers, as Rosa was just coming down the lock as we arrived. But at least it gave us an opportunity to get some nice video of her exiting the locks and heading into Valence d’Agen.
As we passed through Valence d’Agen we noticed that all the sets had been finished, ready for this year’s Au Fil de L’eau (we later found out that the shows had started in the previous week).
We continued on to the next lock, which had someone who had snuck in ahead of us. So we waited at the pontoon, but the lock never responded to our earlier twisting of the twister, so I had to back up 50 metres from the pontoon to twist it again. Then onto the next lock where we double-locked with a yacht that had caught up from behind. All these little delays meant that we would not reach the swing bridge at Moissac before they closed for lunch, so we moored at the bridge across to Nicholas de Grave and Rita went for a swim at the piscine. Then finally into Moissac after lunch (with the roses still blooming in the front garden of the house). Double-moored alongside Hilda May, then later moved forward to moor on the quai in the shade, in front of Le Piglet. In the evening, went to the night market in Castelsarassin, and had dinner at a little café where two guitar players were playing (or trying to play as their PA system kept cutting in and out). A nice touch when the owner of the café came out and joined in one of the songs. Given the vintage of most of their songs, it was like listening to “Nostalgie Live”.
