Saturday 4 Aug - wild-mooring near Pont de Sables, Mermande for dinner

Donald and Laura left Villeton at 8.30am to head west and we followed at 10am after filling up with water. Smooth sailing, but lots of weed in the canal. Along the way you encounter boats of all shapes and sizes, and on this run we encountered our smallest boat so far, and also a big beautiful fully-rigged barge.

We were aiming for Pont des Sables, but it was full so we wild-moored a little further downstream. We passed Donald at Caumont while they were having lunch, and they passed us again after we had moored for the day. They intended going straight through to Meilhan. In the afternoon, a wedding procession went though town, to the accompaniment of hundreds of tooting car horns. That evening we cycled over to Mermande to explore the town, and also had dinner there. The church and gardens were very attractive, while the dinner was good and hearty.

Then home for some reading and an early night. Checked out AFL results history on the web to see if my fixture imputation routine, which accounts for return games not played and with factors for home and away matches, could be done. Looks promising. Rain started falling around 11pm, so tomorrow might be a lazy day.
