Sun 28 July - rain, bicycle brake pads, car shuffle, Tysons, Wanderlust
Overnight rain diminished to light rain during the morning. Having brought Rita's old bicycle back from Bern, in anticipation of an extra rider over the next few weeks, we realised that a bit of maintenance was required, especially the brake pads. But looking at her old bike and our newer bikes, we realised that there were different types of brake pad. So it was off to Google to find out about bicycle brake pads, where we stumbled upon Sheldon Brown's website about all-things-bicycle. Among numerous other things, he explained the different types of brake pad, as follows:
It was here that we realised that Rita's old bike had Smooth Stud pads, while our newer Nakamura bikes had Threaded Stud (Spherical Washers). Now we know what to look for when we go shopping for brake pads.
In the afternoon, I drove up to Auxonne to collect Phil and Kathy, so that we could do the car shuffle with them ending up with the Scenic back in Auxonne. They came down to SJDL with me and we chatted for a few hours on Kanumbra with Rita, before they drove back to Auxonne. Rita and I then went over to the next pontoon, where we chatted with Dave Oare and Becky Gray on Wanderlust for a couple of hours. We have found that having a Piper barge immediately introduces you to a whole range of people on other Piper barges,
