Sunday 14 August - heading west, Ave Sol II, mooring near Le Mas d'Agenais
The next morning we headed west along the canal from Buzet. We weren't too sure where we were going at this stage, but would just see how far we got. We went through Damazan by barge for the first time.
Along the way we went through a lock at St Christophe and admired the lock-side cafe, which seemed to be very popular. We made a note.
A little further on, I got a major surprise. As we went under a bridge on the entrance to the port at Villeton, I saw on the right a barge (Ave Sol II) that I had considered before buying Kanumbra. It looked just as pretty as it did when I first checked it out on ApolloDuck. It was like seeing an old girlfriend walking down the street! I admired from afar as we cruised past.
By evening we had got as far as Le Mas d'Agenais. We had intended to stop here for the night, but were not at all impressed by the port area. So we went through the town a bit further, and moored again by the bank (this was getting to be a habit).
That evening we rode back into Le Mas d'Agenais to check out the town itself. In the church of St. Vincent is an original Rembrandt "Le Christ en Croix". We found the church (left), but it was undergoing renovations so we were not allowed to enter. If we had, this (right) is what we might have seen.
Instead, we sat in the old wooden market place and had a glace for dessert while listening to all the local conversations at the surrounding tables!
