Saturday 13 August - Buzet Wine Co-op tour, Brazilian drummers

We had heard that the local Wine Cooperative ran tours on Saturday afternoons (in English at 2pm and then in French at 4pm). We had also seen posters around town saying that a free concert featuring Brazilian Drums was to be held at 5pm. So we decided to go on the French tour, and then stay for the concert while sampling some of the wines. Even though the tour was in French, I managed to understand a lot of what was being said because there were enough technical terms about wine-making that translated well into English. They showed us through the various processes, including the fermentation tanks, and the American and Polish oak barrels in which the wine was matured.

One interesting thing they pointed out was that 50% of their profit comes from selling the electricity they generate from the solar panels they have put on their vast expanses of rooftop!

After all the work they showed us, it seemed that their naming of one of the final products was rather unfortunate!

Luckily, the wine tasted better than it sounded, and so we bought several bottles for the barge (actually, they were for us) and then listened to the Brazilian Drums while sampling a few more.
