Tues 29 Aug - late, noon leave, Juliana, Rochforte mooring, rain, carbon reports
Because we were up late doing the Creswick application last night, we rose late this morning. Rita went up to the Dole Market in the morning, while I fiddled around with the windscreen wiper for a while, and then started looking for a replacement unit online. So we were a bit late leaving Dole around noon, via the lock which opens into the avenue of trees, and had a nice run up towards Rochefort-sur-Nenon.
The entrance into Rochefort-sur-Nenon is an unusual one, through a flood ecluse, in a deep cutting and around a bend.
But we took it slowly, and it was just as well, because as we approached the final bend, a big barge named Juliana loomed into view. We slowed even further, and the lady on the bow of Juliana started shouting at her husband to slow down, which took him a while to do. But we both came to a stop with about 20m between us. Then, because we were almost through the cutting and he was just entering, he reversed out and pulled over to the left bank. We slowly moved past him and conveyed our thanks. And when we got to the other side, we were pleased to see that the mooring at Rochefort was empty (maybe Juliana had just left it?). So we accelerated a little and pulled into the mooring. And our timing was good because just as we finished tieing up, it started to rain (and continued raining for the rest of the day).
This enabled Rita to contunue writing her report, while i took the opportunity to read some reports on carbon farming and carbon credits, and then started a new novel "The Spy's Wife"
