Sat 4 June - Moissac Market, Kelly party, wedding reception, overnight at St Thecle
We started the weekend in classical Moissac fashion by going to the Moissac Saturday Market, and then heading to the Compostella Cafe for a drink. The Saturday Market is not nearly as big as the Sunday Market, and concentrates mostly on food and a little bit on clothing. Nonetheless it is always an interesting experience and a good chance to bump into friends even if, like us, it's been quite a while since we went to the last market.
In the afternoon, we started on our first "big" trip in the campervan, when we headed north from Moissac to the town of St. Thecle (only about 30 minutes drive) to go to the joint 50th birthday parties of Tony and Tina Kelly. Tony is the DJ who played the music for the regular Karaoke Parties at the Sunbeam Cafe back in the good old days. We went in convoy with John and Irene who were taking their new van on its first overnight trip as well. We parked both vans in the rear of a carpark at the Mairie, and then we drove up the hill a bit more to Tony's place in the Scenic (because there was limited parking at Tony's house).
Even though we really knew no one except John, Irene, Tony and Tina, we had a great evening, and met many of their other friends in the region. Late in the evening, Tony Kelly started up the Karaoke machine and most people had a turn at trying to sing (with mixed results). Rita also brought out her steelpan (which she just happened to have in the back of the Scenic), and that was also enjoyed by all and sundry (many of whom had a go at playing the pan). Some actually made some music with the pan!
Around midnight, most people were calling it a day, so we headed back down to the vans at St Thecle and prepared for a good night's sleep. Unfortunately, we forgot about the Community Hall next to the Mairie, where a wedding reception was taking place. Initially that was not too much of a problem (they must have been listening to speeches when we got home to the vans) but as soon as our heads hit the pillows, the music started up again and continued until around 3am in the morning. Luckily, tiredness had overcome us before then, and we all fell asleep long before 3am.
