Wed 3 Aug - cool, lake walk, Musee, wet sheet, lake swim, cards, pingpong, lake
The morning was very cool, indicating that our efforts to escape the heat were working, to some extent. As least the night was cool, enabling us to get a good night's sleep; let's see what the day brings. We decided to take advantage of the cooler weather by going for a morning walk around the "little lake", situated between the campground and the "big" Lac de Remoray.
The lakeside walk was very pleasant, and as the temperature rose during the late morning, we appreciated the shade provided by the trees.
After our walk, we deviated a bit off the path and went to the Nature Reserve Museum. Unfortunately, they were just about to close for lunch (it is France!), so we ended up just sitting on their shady verandah with a cool drink to escape the heat.
We then returned to Vanumbra for lunch, where we put up a wet sheet on one end of the awning, to act as our "air-conditioner" and privacy screen.
While Rita took her bike off the back of the van and went to explore the local area, I just relaxed under the awning, and may even have grabbed forty winks of sleep at some point(s) in time.
During the afternoon, I watched the passing parade of campers going about their business, and enjoyed watching a grandpa and his two grand-daughters playing cards across the way. One seemed to know what she was doing, but the younger one was getting lots of advice from Gramps.
In the evening, after dinner, we found the ping-pong table and played several games. Modesty prevents me from disclosing the game scores. Having worked up a bit of a sweat, we then headed down to the big lake. The view of the lake, the new moon, and a silhouetted tree and bench was very appealing.
So, while I enjoyed a cool ale on the bench, Rita decided to go for a night swim in the lake. We then wandered back to the van and had an early night, in anticipation of a good night's sleep in the cooler air.
