Wed 22 Sep - 0900 start, lock67, Rita helping, dismal entry, P&K. salon fluvial 2

Luckily the noise from the silo fans subsided overnight, or maybe we just got more used to it, and we got a reasonable night's sleep. However, we realised another little problem with the silos in the morning, when they blocked out the rays from the rising sun. Even though it was a bright sunny morning, it was very cool in the shade of the silos.

But we didn't have to put up with that for too long, since we had to be up and ready to leave by 0900h, when the eclusiers started work for the day. This morning, however, we only had one eclusier, since half of them were attending a meeting to discuss the automation of the locking process on this canal. So Rita jumped ship at each lock to help with opening and closing the gates on one side of the lock.

At most of the locks there is a quaint little eclusiers house, which has now been recommissioned for some other purpose. However at Ecluse 67, there was a brand new building and it was very clear that this was ECLUSE 67!

A little further on, as we approached Ecluse 61, we noticed a linear market garden along the right bank of the canal...

...and at Ecluse 61 itself, there were many paintings, sculptures and other artifacts, as well as a shop in the old eclusier's house selling the produce from the market garden. A very interesting arrangement.

We continued on towards Dijon, and eventually reached the city outskirts, which provided very dismal entry visuals. But the port at Dijon itself was very different, and we were soon moored alongside Effie in a delighful setting, ready to stage our very own Piper Boats Mini Salon Fluvial

After very amiable drinks and chat with Phil and Kathy on board Effie, we returned to Kanumbra to enjoy a very peaceful and colourful evening.
