Tues 3 Sept - misty, breakfast, Nicols boat, windy, Rita rides, UK Commons
We woke to a misty morning on the river and across the barrage. The rising sun refracted in the spider webs on branches near the barrage, complementing the swirling mist above the barrage.
We invited Peter and Amanda and their friends to join us for breakfast.
After a wide array of topics had been covered, talk wandered to a discussion of the Nicols hire-boat at the back of the mooring which looked like it had been abandoned there for several days. However, as we were about to go and inspect it, two guys appeared and let themselves on-board. In the end, we were not sure what the story was. In mid morning, le Piglet pulled away from the mooring and headed north towards Besançon. We will keep in touch with them, and hopefully see them again before another 5 years elapses.
As the day wore on, it became quite blustery, so I was happy to sit on the boat and work on the blog. But Rita convinced herself that she needed to go for a bike ride, so I was quite willing to let her do that on her own.
Since we had good 4G mobile reception on our FreeMobile phones, I took the opportunity in the late afternoon to watch a streaming broadcast of the Benn Act debate in the UK House of Commons. I have never watched such a live stream before, and I was amazed at the procedures there. I was particularly impressed by the way that members would "give way" halfway through their address so that others could make a comment (even to members of the other side of the house) - I couldn't imagine that happening in the Australian Parliament.
