Tues 6 Aug - Bernie 72, delayed departure, swim, paddleboards, blog, waterfront
My brother Bernie would have been 72 today, and since we are not going anywhere, I've had time to sit and think of him on occasion. We are not going anywhere because, although today is fine, there is a forecast of rain over the next few days and we don't want to be caught in the middle of nowhere having to negotiate locks in the rain (not much fun for Rita doing the ropes). So we just hung around the boat in the morning, until Rita went for a swim at the pool across the river in late morning while I continued to work on catching up with this blog. While she was at the pool, a class of paddleboard novices cruised down the river past the pool.
As I sat working on the blog, I realised what a wonderful location we have for our mooring. Many people around the world would pay a fortune for a waterfront view such as we have from the barge. But we get it thrown in for free with our overnight mooring fee!
As the evening closed in, the cafe/nightclub across the river started to liven up. First, it was soft blues music as people ate and drank, then it revved up to faster rock'n'roll and dancing music as couples got on their feet to strut their stuff.
The night finished off with a little thunderstorm and some lightning, as a precude of what's predicted to come tomorrow.
