Sun 25 Aug - good sleep, overcast, out of eight, morning after, Montbeliard, Stokes
We had a good sleep and awoke to a fabulous view over the valley below their new house site. I quickly checked my phone to see the AFL scores from Sunday games, and found that Western Bulldogs had won, thereby eliminating Hawthorn from the Final 8. Oh well, it was a good end to the season with 3 wins. Only one team in the Final 8 will also finish the season with a win!
The weather was a bit overcast, but it wasn't the only thing that was a bit dull, as we found out when we woke Nico! But he had done so much work to make the party happen that he deserved the chance to then let his hair down a little.
But is wasn't too long before Nico was awake enough to join others for breakfast, using the copious amounts of food left over from last night.
Unfortunately, we couldnt stay on for very long, since we had a long hot drive back to Montbeliard today (in a car which had a non-working AC and fan system). We took a break for lunch at a motorway rest area, and were lucky to find a couple of shady trees to cool the car a little.
After we got back to Montbeliard, I checked the internet to see the result of the Ashes Cricket match, and was astounded to find that after being all out for 67 in their first innings, England had managed to drag themselves off the canvas to win by one wicket, when Ben Stokes staged a Steve Smith-like performance to score 136 himself, and more importantly bat with the tailenders for an extended period to overhaul Australia's score with one wicket yet to fall. Significantly, I didn't hear any Australians booing Stokes after his performance.
