Tuesday 17 July - Drumsara, Dexter II, Expo photos, bug, Pol Foth, frames
Unlike the turbulent weather of the past few days, this morning dawned fine, but breezy. After their recent adventures, Drumsara was off early to depart west. We’ll see them again in a few weeks when they return for the Fêtes des Plaisanciers.
During the morning, we heard quacking heading our way, and on inspection we saw the resident duck/goose(?) coming over from his/her log on the barrage. Because of its similar personality to the original Dexter in the port, we have named him/her Dexter II. He/she cruised up and down the river beside Kanumbra, enabling me to get some good photos.
Dexter’s arrival was perfectly timed, as I was just in the process of ordering some photo prints for the Arts Expo being held in conjunction with the Barge Rally next month. So I added the photo above for a large canvas copy to exhibit.
While we were sitting on the rear deck having lunch I noticed a colourful bug arrive and sit on my plate. I couldn’t resist a photo and was amazed at the quality of this close-up taken with my iPhone 7+. In years past, you would need a good quality camera with special lenses to get such a shot, but nowadays a phone will do!
During the afternoon, a knock on the door revealed Polly and Neil Fothergill from Piper Barge MicMac, who had driven to Moissac to have a look, pending over-wintering in the port. They had a good talk with me and Phil (Effie), and now look like they will proceed with the over-wintering if they can get a booking.
Later we got a call from the Arts Expo organisors, asking if they could use the wooden frames we made for the last Barge Artz Expo, so we picked them up from La Maison and delivered them to the shed near where the Welcome Party will be held for the Fêtes.
