Saturday 2 Sept - La Reole Market, Castets, Ecluse 50, Fontet, white barge

I was still feeling a bit crook on Saturday morning, so Rita headed off to the La Reole Saturday Market by herself. After she got back we considered our options, and decided to cruise to Castets-en-Dorthe just so we could say we’d gone as far as we could on this trip.

It was a pleasant cruise and a couple of hours later we arrived at the entrance to Castets and passed though the area with all the permanent moorings.

We went through one more lock and then moored at the first (and only) place on the plastic pontoons. I had not seen this type of pontoon before and luckily they were reasonably stable as one leaned over the end to thread the mooring rope through the eye on the corner.

The views upstream and downstream from our mooring were pleasant enough, and the service from Bruno was great.

However, when we saw the mooring prices (25euro/night for our length), we changed our mind and decided to head back to Fontet (especially since we were too far away from the borne to get electricity and too far from the Capitainerie to get internet).

On our return trip to Fontet, we passed a nice little cafe at Ecluse 50 and noted it in our canal guide for future reference.

We reached home sweet home at Fontet at 1859hr, just one minute before the locks closed for the day. The big white barge looked great on our millpont “lake"
