Monday 4 Sept - rain, glue, Velcro, library, rainbow, sunset, Dale&Donna, moon
We had some overnight rain, and some heavy morning rain, even though there was no rain forecast on the rain radar. As a result, it was noon before Rita rode across to la Reole to get some glue for the wheelhouse roof vinyl. While she was away, I took the opportunity to cut the Velcro to attach the vinyl to the roof. The velcro was in 100mm wide strips, which had to be cut to 25mm widths, so it was a long and fiddly process.
When Rita got back around 1400h, I started trying the two glues we already had and the two new ones, only to find that none of the glues worked on the vinyl. So we would have to think of another way to fold the edges and to attach the velcro to the vinyl.
In mid-afternoon a colourful boat approached from the east, and as it got closer we realised it was a Library boat. Reminds me of our Mobile Library truck back home.
In late-afternoon, we had some more showers, even though the sun was still shining, so we realised there may be some opportunities for rainbows - and we were not disappointed. I was lucky enough to catch this picture of the rainbow ending on our barge - our little pot of green & gold.
In the evening, we went on our usual garbage/sunset walk. The sunset views from various locations were amazing.
While we were walking, we noticed another couple cycling in the area and taking photos. As they cycled past us, they heard us talking and asked “Are you Aussies?”. So we introduced ourselves, and met Dale and Donna from Tauranga NZ (the town my grandfather came from). We chatted for a while and told them about the delights of Fontet (they were touring in a motorhome) and then bid them farewell, and continued our evening walk past the Matchstick Museum and the local cemetary.
We then walked slowly down to the port area, and got an interesting shot of the moon over the moorings.
When we got back to the barge, Rita did some pan practice for her upcoming gig at St Maurin, while after many attempts I got the generator working, which was just as well since it had been a while since we had been on shore power.
