Tuesday 15 August - overnight rain, volets, more rain, Puycornet, Damazan
There was overnight rain in Moissac, followed by a cool morning. We had arranged with M. Roches to meet him at La Maison, to clarify some issues about the volets (shutters), since some were still missing and we needed to clarify how many were being re-built and how many were just being painted. When we arrived, he was already there and unloading more volets from the back of his truck. We helped with this and then I helped him to hang those on the ground floor verandah. He apologised for the delay in delivery, but explained that he had just had an operation on his shoulder, which was hindering him from lifting anything heavy for a while. So we suggested that we would get Nico to help him hang those on the upper floors, after Nico had settled into Puycornet and after his shoulder had healed a bit more.
Around midday, it started to rain again, but this did not deter those on this colourful boat as it passed through port. It turned out to be the Arts Expo Barge, which conducts travelling arts shows and movie nights as it moves up and down the canal.
Soon after, the St Louis hotel barge left Moissac travelling west, and we again saw how long it was, close-up.
That evening, Nico and Miyu arrived in Puycornet, after a long two-vehicle drive from Redon (in Brittany). However, they were too tired to catch up with us that night, so Rita and I headed out to the Damazan Night Market to catch up with a bunch of barging friends, and to talk with the Night Market organisors about performing next year. It was a nice change, after they asked their annual question about when the band was coming again to Damazan, to be able to say “Next Year!”.
The Birthday Hat from last week at the St. Maurin market made another appearance, as Evelyn passed it on to Sally, who was celebrating a birthday beginning with the number “8”. Nothing like barging to keep you young at heart.
