Monday 21 August - shady, Sebastian, Fêtes website, generator, swim, petanque
Since we were moored on the western side of the Capitainerie building, we had a shady morning until the sun rose overhead. We had been advised to look out for Sebastian, the head mechanic, but it was a very busy morning with lots of hire-boats coming and going, and so it was not until mid-afternoon that he found time to come and try helping us with the generator.
In the meantime, I got to work developing the website for the 2018 Fêtes des Plaisanciers that we were planning for Moissac.
When Sebastian finally arrived, we tried explaining the problem to him with Rita translating my explanation into French, but unfortunately he was not very familiar with Mastervolt generators, or with the digital control systems involved (since the hire-boats don’t have such “fancy” systems). So to illustrate the problem, he asked us to try starting the generator, so that we could see what was going wrong. And so, as fate would have it, the generator started three times without missing a beat!! So he couldn’t really help us if he couldn’t see what the problem was, and our explanations were not good enough to make any lightbulbs flash on in his head. Because he had to get back to the hire-boats, we thanked him and then decided that we’ll just move on tomorrow and trust to luck. Maybe the system has miraculously cured itself!
With the generator problem attended to (sort of), Rita went swimming at Damazan Lake, while I continued work on the web pages for the Fétes. After dinner on board and in failing light, we went in search of a gravelled area on which we could continue the Petanque challenge; today Rita won 10-12, to level the series 2-all.
