Wednesday 15 June - assignments finished, shopping, stormfront, Red
Today I finished the assignments, and was able to send off the feedback sheets to all the students. Now I just have to grade their exams, which have started to arrive by email from Monash.
Another shopping expedition to Intermarche today to fill the larder before the arrival of Jackie Lallemand, who may be helping with the running of the B&B in future years. Because we will be moving to the barge soon, while Jackie stays in the house, we have to stock up for both the house and the barge, and we always forget what we have bought for where. I also have the same problem with tools that I have bought over the years. At the moment I am looking for my Makita drill and a multitool grinder, but I can’t find it on the barge or in the house! Sometimes this is because I actually bought the tools in Taggerty (and not Moissac), but I’m sure that is not the case here. Just have to look harder. I probably put them away in a very clever place!
As evening approached, we started to hear the sound of the cannons being fired in the fruit orchards to the west of Moissac, which signalled the arrival of a storm. The farmers shoot into the sky to minimise the formation of hailstones, which can cause horrendous damage to their crops. On looking out the bedroom window, I could see why they were concerned, and the internet radar map confirmed the arrival of several storm cells from the southwest. Luckily, for Moissac, the storm passed just to the west of Moissac and we only got medium rain during the night.
We rounded off the evening by listening to some Australian radio. At home, we normally wake to the quirky sounds of Red Symon on ABC774 radio, and then lie in bed until the 7.45am news is finished. Using the ABC radio app on our iPhone, we now lie in bed at night listening to Red until the news finishes at midnight. Ah, the joys of technology! One day/night, we will have to ring in to his show to confirm that he has a worldwide audience.
