Thursday 23 June - exams, gates, birds, goat skin, Brexit
Three more Project Management exams arrived overnight, so my day started by doing some more grading, and then sending all the results off to Monash University. It was then time to don the work clothes and get back to work preparing the front gates for painting. Halfway through preparing the ironwork above the gates I decided to take a photo to show the contrast between the old (on the right) and the new.
Our neighbour Odile returned yesterday from time spent in Morocco visiting her family, and we discovered that Meggsy (the ginger cat) belongs to her. Since she returned we have seen a lot less of him in our garden. As a result, the birds that were forever tweeting at him have come out into the open and have shown a great interest in what’s happening to the gates. The family of three seem quite happy to sit on or near the gates just watching what is going on.
Another family of birds also moved into the garden today - Jackie’s sculptures for the Barge Arts Expo in a couple of weeks. These include a family of blue wrens, some other LBJs (little brown jobs) and a couple of parrots. They seem to have made themselves quite at home. Will be interesting to see if they scare away the real birds from the garden.
In the evening we went into town to see another concert in the Festival des Voix series. This time it was “10 Strings and a Goat Skin” (I thought I should go in honour of Oscar, our goat back home in Taggerty). This was three young guys from Canada (Quebec) playing a fiddle, a guitar and a small hand drum (the goat skin), plus percussion from the drummer using his feet on a board. Despite a initially quite reception from the audience, they eventually had people up and dancing, with their last number having a totally filled dance area.
After having a coffee in Moissac after the concert, we returned home and finished the evening listening to Raph Epstein on the Drive Show on ABC774 radio in Melbourne, via the ABC Radio app on our phone. He talked a bit about the Brexit referendum that had been held today in the UK, and noted that by tomorrow’s show they would know the result. But all the indications and exit polls were suggesting a Remain win, so we went to sleep peacefully.
