Saturday 18 June - exams, market, kittens, Dr Raphael & Isobel, Nic & Sally

More exam marking in the morning, before going up to the Saturday Market to meet Rita and Jackie for a coffee at the Compostella. Our time in Moissac so far this year seems to have been dominated by cats and kittens. As we returned home after the market, we discovered these two cuties snuggled on the footpath near our house, opposite the flower boxes on the canal wall. Clearly, they belong to someone as evidenced by the collars, and seemed quite happy just camped on the footpath in the sun.

In the afternoon, we had a visit from two people from Moissac who were interested in renting our house for two years, while their house in Moissac is undergoing major renovations and foundation repair work. They want to stay in Moissac (their two daughters attend school locally) and had heard about our house from our electrician, Jean-Baptiste. The man, a local doctor, had already had a quick look through the house, and now wanted to check it out with his wife. They were looking for the two lower floors and were happy for us to retain control of the top floor apartment. All seemed to go well, and now we need to decide whether we want to put the B&B plans on hold for 2 years, and if so what price we would like to charge as a monthly rent. Decisions, decisions!! Just goes to show how quickly directions can change; yesterday we were talking with Jackie about plans for the B&B, while today we are thinking of a medium-term rental. Who knows?

We had heard from Nic and Sally on the barge Pomme de Mer that they were in Moissac for a few days and would like to catch up for a chat about the upcoming Fete and other things. They invited us for a drink on-board, and then go out to dinner in town. As we walked along the canal towards the port, we realised that the reconstructed road connecting the port with the town centre would give a much better view of the old church, Eglise Saint-Jacques, from the canal - a spectacular vista from the canal for boaters arriving from the west.

After catching up with Nic and Sally, and Sally's sister visiting from England, we headed up town for dinner at Lou’s Grill, a favourite eating place of many locals. Once again the food was good, and the conversation lively, including a discussion of the upcoming Brexit vote.
