Friday 29 July - camion, furniture, barging, Janek, canal walk, SWC16 runoff
While we still had some men at the house, we decided to rent a Renault camion (van) to move furniture from the house to our storage shed, in anticipation of the house being rented (without most of the furniture) for the next two years. After that was finished in mid-morning, we went for a short barge excursion westwards along the canal with Janek & Steph. But we couldn’t go too far since Janek & Steph had to leave on a train for the west coast in mid-afternoon, and we didn’t want them to miss another train! So we got them to Moissac station in plenty of time, only to find that the regional train was running 20 minutes late. Since they only had a 30 minute transit time at Agen before their TGV to Bordeaux was due to depart, we started to get a bit worried as the minutes ticked by. But the regional train duly arrived 20 minutes late, and we learnt later that they had made all their connections. Phew!
After dinner that evening with Lothar and family, we did a canal walk to the east, finishing in the middle of the Cacor Viaduct over the River Tarn. We waited until near sunset, and then strolled back to the house. Moissac is a great place for ensuring that you get your 7000 steps per day!
After getting back to the house, I checked the internet for the results of the 2016 Speedway World Cup runoff meeting being held at the new National Speedway Stadium in the UK, between Denmark, USA, Russia and Australia. Australia led throughout the meeting, but had to withstand a strong finish from Denmark and went on to record a 44-41 victory, with Jason Doyle unbeaten on the night. This meant that they would go through to the SWC Final on the Saturday night.
(sorry for no pictures today; none survived the GHDD2016!)
