Tuesday 16 August - market, Moissac, AFL catchup, town walk, terrasse dinner
Tuesday is Market Day in Valance d’Agen and since we were running out of bread, and Doug was keen to see the market, he got up early and walked back to Valance d’Agen By the time he had returned, the rest of us had struggled out of bed and made preparations for a relaxed rear deck breakfast. We then prepared to leave our mooring after the locks opened for the day, but since no one else came along wanting to use our pontoon, we took things easily and didn’t leave until about 1030hr.
After his taster at using the ropes yesterday, Doug was keen to have a go at steering the barge. He picked it up fairly quickly, and Krista was obviously very impressed with his abilities.
We took our time getting to Moissac and didn’t arrive until about 1400hr. Soon after we arrived, we heard Jackie coming towards the barge, to give Krista a big hug. Jackie and Krista are school friends from way back, but hadn’t seen each other for a while. It was because of Krista, as a mutual friend of Jackie and us, that Jackie has been staying with us in Moissac for most of the summer.
While Jackie and Krista were catching up with each other’s news, I took the opportunity to catch up with the AFL games that I had missed on streaming over the past few weeks. We all then went for a walk around town, and I noticed that there was another photographic exhibition in the Uvarium gardens. This time it seemed to capture lots of images of wartime Moissac, and I particularly liked this one of people lining up at the Charcuterie (delicatessen) window at a shop which is near the canal, just next to the current Post Office building.
That evening we had a relaxed dinner at La Maison, and caught up with what had been happening in Moissac while we were away, including further updates on the saga of Jackie’s stolen purse.
