Sunday 7 August - quietness, Skype, Port St Marie, Buzet beer&Pizza, petanque
One of the things we enjoy about the Phillipot Parc mooring is the quietness, despite it being only about 100 metres from the Autoroute. Somehow, it is always shielded from traffic noise, even at night, and so we enjoyed a long and peaceful sleep.
During the morning, Rita had a long Skype call to someone at the University of Melbourne who was doing research into music therapy. We then jumped on the bikes again to ride to Port Sainte-Marie on the other side of the Garonne River (follow the blue arrows below from the E72 sign near Feugarolles).
We then rode back and cut through a farmland road (red arrows above) to get to the town of Thouars-sur-Garonne, right on the River Garonne. Since it was a very warm day by now, we took to riding very slowly, and sometimes in circles, as we passed under the big boom sprays that were watering the nearby cornfields. We lingered for a while on the river, and Rita went in for a quick paddle in the shallows, before we then cycled on to Buzet-sur-Baise. As we headed over the River Baise bridge, Rita spotted a potential swimming hole, and before she could be stopped she was off and having a swim.
We then went into Buzet proper, where we grabbed a Pizza and Beer for dinner. We then cycled back along the canal towpath to Phillipot Parc, where we played Petanque in the Parc until dark.
