Friday 5 August - Rita home, sleep, Agen walk, Brulee, concert
Rita arrived back in Agen on the train from Moissac in mid-morning, and then because she had had a late night at the concert and I had had a disturbed night listening for cars parking and/or unparking, we both decided it would be a good time for a sleep. The fact it had also started to rain confirmed that it was a good time for sleep. So we had an early siesta!
In mid-afternoon, we were again bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and since the rain had also stopped, we went for a walk around Agen. We always enjoy these walks in Agen, because there are lots of interesting walkways and buildings, and we enjoy recognising locations from years past (e.g. the shoe shop, the restaurant with no food, the whisky shop etc). Near the Mairie, we discovered a stage being set up for a concert that evening, and so since it was approaching evening, we stopped at a small cafe for a bite to eat (which turned into dinner). In my never-ending culinary quest throughout France, I discovered what I rated to be the best creme brulee I had yet tasted! When Rita went in to pay the bill, she relayed this story to the madame behind the counter, who was thrilled to hear such a compliment. We will go back there again in the future.
By the time we had finished dinner, the evening concert was getting underway with a small trio and female singer (can’t remember the names!) who were very good. They finished their warmup act, and a larger group took the stage, accompanied by the same singer who had changed character from a soulful ballad singer to a loud and raunchy rock singer. We listened for quite a while, but as a drizzle started to drift down from the heavens, we thought it wise to start our long walk back to the barge. Just another day in Agen.
