Thursday 11 June - shutters, grading, facade rendering talk, SWC
One of the remaining tasks at the house is to do repairs on the shutters (“volets”) on the many windows (17 double shutters in total). Most of them just need re-painting, but some are in poor structural condition and will need to be replaced entirely. So today I did some shutter research to explore possible designs and prices. For the size we need (2 x 2.1m x 0.6m for each window), the price of new shutters seems to be about 350euro. However, since the new shutters will need to match the old shutters (to get Patrimoine “heritage” approval), we may have to get someone to build some new shutters in the same style as the old, which will undoubtedly increase the price. Time will tell.
Today, I finished the assignment grading for my Monash Uni course on Project Management, only to have a late submission arrive which also needed grading. But now it’s all done, and I await the exams which are being taken this week.
Another job that needs to be done at the house is the rendering of the facade on the outside walls. Since this also needs to be done with Patrimoine approval (especially since they may give us a subsidy to do the work), we had a talk this afternoon with the guy who did the rendering on the inside of the Lightwell. He has done many facade jobs in the region under Patrimoine guidance, so was well aware of their requirements. However, the colour scheme he suggested that they would approve of was very bland and not to our liking, so I think we will do a bit more research. However, since the colours will not affect the price, he has promised to get a quote (“devis”) to us in the coming week to take to the Mairie to start the discussion on the subsidy.
In the evening, the Speedway World Cup run-off was run in Denmark to see who would be the last team to progress to the Final. Poland won easily to join Denmark, Sweden and Australia in the Final on Saturday night.
