Saturday 27 June - AFL, lavender, Festival de la Voix concerts
I woke early (0500h) to go up to the house and watch the AFL game between the Hawks and the Essendon Bombers. This is always a special game for me, given that my son David is a mad Bombers supporter. This game was especially important since the Bombers had defeated the Hawks by 2 points earlier in the year. While the first half was very close, with just one point difference at half-time, the Hawks ran away with the game in the 3rd quarter and ended up winning by 36 points, 114-78.
Rita went up to the Saturday Market and bought six potted lavender plants, which she planted in the garden at the house that afternoon. We then went into town to see what concerts were on. The first one we came across, outside the Abbey entrance, was by TonyCello, a cello player and comedian. Although his act was all in French, I was able to understand many of the jokes because some were very highly visual. I was also given lots to enjoy by just watching the audience reaction to his performance.
While he was performing, a wandering artist drew many sketches of him, and later put them up on YouTube, along with sketches and sounds from many other performers at the Festival.
