Saturday 4 July - fishermen, roundabout, Buzet wine, canal, lac, la Penia

Because of the continuing hot weather, we decided to spend another night in the house, which was much cooler than the barge. During the morning, we received a call from Kaz saying that because of the Fete de Nautique being held on the River Tarn, we would need to move our barge to make space for fishermen on the quai. Since we were going down to the barge anyway, it was not a big problem, but when we got there it turned out that she was able to move enough other barges that we could stay where we were.

We then headed out to MusicZone, where Rita wanted to pick up a few items. While I was waiting, I walked down to the nearby roundabout which is one of my favourites in Moissac. As with many other sites in Moissac, the local Mairie does a great job in making the place look good, with this roundabout featuring a small vineyard and fruit trees - quite symbolic of agricultural pursuits in Moissac.

In the afternoon, we jumped into the car and headed down to Buzet, because we heard that the Buzet wine co-op was having a big sale this week. Sure enough, when we got there we found lots of 2-for-1 specials (even though wine in France is already ridiculously cheap). So we picked up a few dozen of our favourites, plus a presentation pack to take to Frank for his 95th birthday next week.

While we were in Buzet, we went to check out the canal. VNF must have completed their work on the breach because the canal was now full of water again. But a photo we got later that day from Walt and Gail Gay showed what it was like when it was empty!  Not the most comfortable way to live on a boat.

We then headed up to Lac Damazan, where Rita took the opportunity to do an hour of lap swimming before we headed into the town of Damazan for a walk around. Once again, the infilled timber walls jumped out at me. As evening was approaching we walked across to La Penia restaurant for dinner, and once again we enjoyed a great meal.

When we got back to the house, I noticed that the LED light in the ground floor toilet had blown (while I was sitting inside!). I then found that many other lights were not working, including the automatic lights on the stairwell. Since I had never heard of LED lights failing so early in their life, I suspected that it was more than just a blown globe, so resolved to call Jean-Baptiste in the morning to sort the matter out.
