Sunday 9 Aug - overcast, to Lavardac, the lock, moored, more rain, town walk
We woke at 0950h to overcast but dry conditions. After the heavy overnight rain, I was interested to see if it affected the river levels at the Vianne Weir, but nothing looked out of the ordinary.
After breakfast we decided to get going while the going was good, so we moved away at 1100h to go upstream. After our experience at the Lavardac lock in 2011, we were anticipating it with some trepidation. However, we now had longer ropes and had inspected the lock a few times over the past years, so we were quietly confident.
It was a very short cruise up to Lavardac, where to our relief we successfully navigated the Lavardac lock with no trouble. We moored in town at the main quai just as the rain started again at 1215h.
It rained for most of the afternoon, so we resigned ourselves to a few hours of reading and lounging around. Despite the rain, the Cruise Boat stationed at Lavardac still took tourists for their cruise up the river.
After the rain cleared, Rita went for a ride to Barbaste, while I went for a walk around Lavardac. Because it was Sunday, it was pretty quite, but I got a nice shot of Kanumbra moored under the elevated quadrangle in front of the church.
As I walked through the town streets, I also got an interesting photo of a photographer taking a photo of what Lavardac girls do on a cool, quiet Sunday afternoon to keep themselves amused.
