Friday 25 July - thunderstorms, concerts, gas, clutch practice
We woke to thunderstorms that were rolling across Moissac. While it is the middle of summer, it is quite common to get thunderstorms at any time of the day (unlike Taggerty where they tend to arrive in the late afternoon after the heat has been building up all day).
Rita went up to the Abbey very early for a morning concert of medieval music, which is part of a series being held over the coming week. It was a bit too early for me, so I stayed in bed and listened to the thunder. Later in the morning I took some time to catch up on this blog. Around midday there was another choir performance in the Abbaye, and since it was a more respectable time, I went up as well. The sound of the medieval singers in the cavernous Abbaye was something special.
Nico contacted us with the news that the gas supplier (GDRF) for the house had said that they wouldn’t be able to connect the gas until 26 August, despite several months of asking them to do so, and several appointments which they have failed to keep. Interactions with the electricity, gas and water authorities over here have really been the low-point of the house renovations. While most of the other tradespeople have been willing to go out of their way to get things done, it seems that the authorities find it all too difficult to turn up to do connections when they promise to do so. We will probably have to do the connections ourselves, if we want to have hot water and cooking when the band arrives, and then apologise when they finally turn up to do the official connection.
In the evening, Rita went for a drive around the local roads and then out to Intermarche for some more clutch practice - she is getting the hang of it.
