Saturday 23 August - more pan stands, Bruniquel, St Antonin, AFL, Parvis Concert
I started the day making more pan-stands for Lachlan and Jane, who will join us later on the Tour, while many others made their way up to the Moissac Saturday Market. It hasn’t taken long for many of them to find the local Op Shop. Later, in the afternoon, we went over to the east of Montauban to visit the town of Bruniquel perched on top of a hill above the River Aveyron, where a medieval pageant was being held. We weren’t quite sure of the protocol for such pageants, but since Monica had made medieval costumes (from her Op Shop visit) for many of us, there was a good scattering of such costumes among the band members on the visit. There were many scenes to be captured in photos on this visit.
Since everyone seemed to be in a good sight-seeing mood, we continued on to the town of St Antonin Noble Val, also on the River Aveyron. This town is reputed to be one of the prettiest in the region, and it did not disappoint. Once again, it didn’t take long for everyone to find the OpShop, clothes stores, coffee shops and brocante.
Finally, after a busy but very relaxing day we headed back to Moissac in the late afternoon. I enjoyed the day so much that I didn’t even worry too much about missing the AFL game between the Hawks and Geelong - our traditional rivals. I only checked the score once on my iPhone at Bruniquel, and when I found that Geelong were leading by 33 points early in the 3rd quarter, I wasn’t too unhappy that I had missed watching it live. So I was rather surprised when we got home to find that the Hawks had got up to win by 23 points, after 10 straight goals when they fell behind by 33 points. I decided to watch the replay in the next couple of days.
That night, several people went up to the Abbey Square (the Parvis) to watch the concert that was happening that night, so that they could get a feel for the layout for when we play there next week. Since I had seen several previous concerts there, I stayed at home for a quiet night, but couldn’t resist watching the AFL replay when I got the chance (-:
