Friday 6 September - deux Cheveaux, cellar flooding, cloudy sunset, storm
In mid-morning, we went up town to meet Barb and David for coffee near the Abbey (on the way up we saw a collection of Deux Cheveaux at the Uvarium).
After coffee, Rita showed them around town for a while, while I headed back to the house to watch the Qualifying Final game between the Hawks and the Swans. After a very even and tight first half (31-31 at half time), the Hawks pulled away in the second half to run out very comfortable winners by 54 points.
The guttering guy came to the house to have a look at what needed to be done and will come back with a quote. Then the plumber arrived with the furnace expert from Deitrich, but we found the basement covered in a few centimetres of water. He eventually worked out that the radiators on the upper floors had all drained, probably after he was fiddling around with some valves a month ago when be last visited. Oh well, at least we now don’t have to pay to get the radiators drained!
They took lots of measurements and will come back with a quote for the new furnace. Started bailing the water out of the basement, then went to the Capitainerie to borrow a pump from Iain. Unfortunately, it didn’t work, possibly because the water depth wasn’t enough to give a full seal around the pump inlet – so back to manual bailing with dustpan and bucket.
In the evening, some clouds rolled in over the Tarn, but this did not stop us getting another beautiful sunset.
But as can often happen on a Moissac evening, the clouds soon turned to a storm, with strong winds and heavy rain. Kanumbra swayed to and fro on the end of the pontoon, but proved that the pontoons are quite strong.
