Tuesday 1 October - last day in Moissac, Pentecote 1946, tradies party

Since today was our last full day in Moissac, we decided that we should start thinking about packing for the trip home. After a bit of juggling, leaving things in Moissac and moving items between suitcases, we got both of them below the Emirates limits.

In the afternoon, we stopped by the Capitainerie to say goodbye to Kaz and Iain. After such a long time in France this year, it seems strange that we won''t see them again for a while, but at least we will stay in touch via Facebook.

We also took the opportunity to go up to the cultural centre and have a look at the exhibition of old Moissac photos (something we had been meaning to do for the past few months). We saw several that we had bought prints of at the Market earlier in the year, and also found one showing the Pentecote Parade from 1946. Given that Kanumbra had been used in the parade for the previous two years, it gave us a real feeling of connection with the history of Moissac.

In the evening, we had a meeting at the house with the plumber (Thierry Giraud), electrician (Jean Baptiste Arm) and painter (Frederique Gonnet). We talked for several hours about various aspects of the jobs, they gave us their preliminary quotations, and then we sat around and chatted for a few hours over wine and cheese and pizza. They also got a good chance to meet and talk at length with Nico. We have a good feeling about the team we have managed to assemble for the renovations. They all seem to be quite competent, and they all get on very well together (and with us and Nico). They have been most generous with their time so far, and have not charged us a cent for the discussions to date. I guess we will see how it all works out when we return to Moissac next year, but Rita has done a fantastic job lining up all these tradespeople and liaising with the Mairie and other organisations involved with the set-up and renovation of the house.

Because we got so involved with the discussions with the tradespeople, we missed the birthday party for Iain’s dad at the Sunbeam Cafe, but Rita said goodbye to everyone when she cycled down to collect the pizzas.

As the tradespeople were leaving, Veronique dropped around to say goodbye. We'll see her soon in Taggerty!

We have all been so engrossed in our final day in Moissac that we forgot to notice the date until I was signing one of the documents for the tradespeople - this turned out to be the latest Pinch'n'Punch in our married life!
