Thursday 11 July - Lac Damazan, Circus Goat, Teleski Nautique

Given the difficulties in getting to the Agen Gare, because of all the road closures, Frank Jnr decided to go back to collect his car from Moissac today, so that he could leave with Frank Snr directly from the barge in the morning. So a late rising for everyone else, while waiting for Frank to return from Moissac with the croissants.

Then we went off to Lac Damazan in Frank’s car for the swimmers to have a swim, and the others to relax in the shade for a while.

When we got there, we saw that the Circus had set up in the adjoining paddock, preparing for shows on Friday and Saturday. Rita found a friend of Oscar’s with whom she practiced “pushing”, until a guy from the circus told her to leave the goat alone.

Rita and Frank Jnr then went swimming, with Rita doing 20 laps just outside the enclosed area (where lots of kids were dive-bombing and generally having fun).

In the meantime, Janik had gone to check out the Teleski Nautique (a bit like a ski-lift running round and round the lake, but much faster). He bought a 60-minute ticket, but after 20 minutes, during which time he lost both his contact lenses from water spray in the face, the Teleski broke down. So he got a refund, which was just as well since he could no longer see where he was going. Later when it started running again, the pros came out and showed how it was done, including going over the ski jump.

We then headed up to the Buzet Wine Coop, where the Seethalers did some tasting, I got a couple of boxes of bottles to replenish the cellar on Kanumbra, and others bought a couple of bottles to take back to Bern.

We then returned to Damazan where we had a relaxed dinner at the La Penna restaurant, next to the petanque area. On the way back to the boat, we stopped at the start of the Agen 4-Locks to show the Seethalers the Agen Aquaduct that we would be crossing the next day after they left.
