Sunday 14 July - caught by Hilda May, nice VNF mooring, Auberge du Goujon
Late rising, waiting for Stuart and Christine to catch up with us. Around 10am they arrived, and then headed onwards to the Baise River overpass locks, with us following behind. Very slow going through the 2-locks near the River Baise overpass because of lots of boats going upstream and downstream (more than we have seen for weeks). Eventually reached the double-lock going down to the Baise at Buzet and passed through without problems (very helpful VNF guy on duty). We picked up the key-tag here that we would use on the River Lot, and which can also be used on the River Baise. We learnt that the Garonne Crossing pilots were not working today (July 14th) but that we could leave at 9am tomorrow. So we moored at a lovely VNF site with free electricity and water just north of the double-locks on the River Baise. This is a fairly secluded site, but very close to Buzet itself. We had lunch with Stuart & Christine on board Hilda May, then caught up with emails etc.
Thought about going to the new (re-located) Auberge du Goujon restaurant on the canal for dinner and then up to Damazan for the fireworks. But everyone felt a bit full after lunch, and decided to skip dinner. Stuart & Christine spent the afternoon on a friend's boat in Buzet, and while they were away we got a bit hungry again and decided to check out the restaurant anyway. So we made a booking for two, just before Stuart & Christine returned home. We tried changing the booking from two to four, but he only had a table for two left (which we had just got). After their busy afternoon, however, Stuart & Christine decided 11pm was a bit late to wait up for fireworks, and decided to get an early night. So Rita and I headed up to the restaurant, and found it to be excellent. Got home about 10.30pm, and just after I lay down, I heard some noise from the direction of Damazan. So we went up and stood on the cabin roof and watched the fireworks anyway over the River Baise. Just as spectacular, if a little smaller, but a lot quieter!
