Wednesday 20 June - 4 Scots on Fair Emma, start of the SR tribulations, IBAN
Met four Scots from Fair Emma. They had sailed over from the UK, heading for the Med. They were leaving their boat in Moissac for the summer (French summers were too hot for the Scots) and heading back to Scotland for a few months before they returned at the end of August to continue their journey. Got their permission to photograph our Emma on their boat while they were away.
During cooking, we realised that the gas bottle was empty. Luckily, we carry a spare full bottle, so changed over the hose and made a note to get a replacement bottle in the near future. Checked out Internet options at SFR. Luckily, Matthieu still worked there, so we reminded him of what we had last year and what we needed. They no longer had the plan we previously had in 2011, but we found an option for phone and computer access at 65euro/month, which enabled us to use the iPhones as modems (without having to jailbreak them this time). However, because these plans were on a contract (which could be broken at any time), we needed IBAN and BIC numbers for direct debit. Eventually, after a bit of Googling when we got back to the boat, we found that, in Australian banking terminology, BIC is SWIFT and IBAN is BSB&ACCT.
