Wednesday 22 Aug - planning the new deck, Vertrouwen arrives in port

After a restless night, I woke to the sound on raindrops on the roof! But only for 10 minutes or so. However, it was much cooler so I took the opportunity to measure up everything on the deck for the construction of the wooden deck next year. I found that my new gangplank proved to be a very useful straight edge, to give me an idea of the levels on the deck.

By the time I'd finished it was hot again, so I went back below to keep working on the paper till the evening, when I will give the deck another good scrubbing to get rid of the brown stains and the loose paint, in preparation for painting later this week, when the temperatures drops. During the afternoon, Vertrouwen came into port with Jerry Crosby. Had a short talk with him, before he and his guests went off to dinner, and I went back to scrubbing the deck. Later that evening, Jerry, David and James came across to Kanumbra for a chat and a drink. Later in the evening, I heard someone on board. Given the problems in the past week, I carefully went to explore, only to find the grey tabby walking up the stairs out of the galley - he/she is getting very friendly!
