Tuesday 7 Aug - "Bankside Buskers" in concert at Meilhan port

The day of the big Meilhan concert, featuring the "Bankside Buskers" in the intermission. Rita went to practice with Malcolm and Nick while I went to the bank and then did some grocery shopping. Went OK with most things except for the fruit and veg, which had to be weighed. Unlike Carrafour, however, the scale did not have the pictures, just the names in French. So I left the fruit and veg for Rita to pick up later after she had gone swimming at the piscine. Also went to the boulangerie and was very proud of myself asking for "un baguette" except that I was pointing at a non-baguette, much to the confusion of the young girl serving me. Eventually we agreed that I really wanted "un pain".

After lots of setting up by the main band that night, the concert started around 8pm, with Malcolm (piano), Nick (banjo and vocals) and Rita (pans) playing at 9.30pm. Joined the gang on David and Evelyn's barge after the concert for a few drinks and a little singalong to the pan, until the grumpy port captain told us we were too loud for the campers next door (too bad if the campers were trying to get their kids to sleep before 11pm when the main band was going at mega decibels). Nick slept on Kanumbra overnight, then drove back to Buzet in the morning. Unfortunately, or fortunately, there was no usable video of the concert to include in this website.
