Wed 3 July - breezy, blog, CIF paint cleaner
The morning was breezy, but this was a mixed blessing in that, while it lowered the temperature a bit, it also made it difficult to safely remove the tarp from the front deck. So I had to find something else to do, apart from the ever-present catch-up on the website rewriting )-: (and an extended online conversation with the Everweb support staff in Ontario, Canada about some problems I was having with publishing the website on their servers).
And what I found was even less interesting, but useful nonetheless. I have always used CIF (the European equivalent of ZIF cleaner) for cleaning the undersides of the railing on the rear and side decks. So while I was doing some of that on the rear deck today, I spilled some CIF on the green-painted stern of the boat. As I wiped it off, I thought it looked a bit cleaner and less "chalky" from the oxidisation of the paint over the years. So I tried giving a small patch of the stern a good cleaning with CIF, and was quite impressed with the result. Not very hard work, but brought back a bit of shine to the paintwork and made the boat look much less "old". I guess I've now found something to do (in small batches) when I have nothing else to do.
