Sat 6 July - cooler, EverWeb, World Cup Cricket, Swedish SGP, millpond, techno
Folowing some overnight thunder and a light morning rain, today was much cooler than previous days - phew! I spent time this morning in online communication with support staff from Everweb about some aspects of the software I'm using to rewrite this website, mainly to do with the time required to publish the site, especially as it seems to want to do full updates, rather than incremental updates for only the pages that have changed. Finally understanding the software better, especially for a large and growing site like this one.
In preparation for the H2O electrician on Monday, I spent some time in the engine room today checking things out to see if there was something REALLY obvious that I was missing. I couldn't see anything, but thought it would be a good idea to take some pictures of the cabling between the 10 batteries used for domestic electricity storage. The photo below gives an idea of the cabling for the 10 yellow AGM house batteries (95AH each) and the two black engine starter batteries.
Today I followed the final preliminary match of the Cricket World Cup when Australia played South Africa. If Australia won, they would stay top of the table. But they failed by just 10 runs when South Africa made 325, and Australia could only muster 315. So that means they fall to 2nd on the table and will play England in the semi-finals, rather than New Zealand. That might be good in Rugby, but not in one-day cricket.
That evening I followed the Swedish Speedway GP, where young substitute Australian rider Max Fricke again did well to get to the grand final, but missed out on a step of the podium. Next time!
The port that evening was like a millpond, in stark contrast to the doof-doof techno music blaring across Auxonne. The music had been going all afternoon and continued into the night. It quietened down around 10pm, but then kicked up again just after midnight for the final set. Luckily we got an interesting sunset to offset the sound.
