Saturday 25 Aug - cool, Dole, Peter&Judy, rain, Bessain, AFL, walk to farm

We rose late again today, but mainly because it was a much colder morning, and it was so snug under the covers. After another relaxed breakfast, it was time to head off because Elizabeth was having a busy time at the Hotel over the weekend and needed all the bedrooms.

So we bundled ourselves in the car and drove up to Dole, before heading on to Besain. At Dole, we caught up with Peter Vizzard and Judy Lynne who were on-board their new Dutch Cruiser (far right in the picture of Dole Harbour on the River Doubs below).

It was great to see them back on a boat again, after they sold Zee Otter a couple of years ago. They seem very happy to be back on the water again, on a boat with a little less maintenance work required. We had a great chat and catch up.

But as we chatted on, we realised it was beginning to rain, and our car was on the other side of the harbour, a fair walk away. So we reluctantly took our leave, but promised to catch up with them again next year after we’ve moved “up North”.

As we walked to the car, the rain got heavier and so Rita opted for the very fashionable "Ned Kelly" look with a shopping bag over her head.

We then drove across to Besain in the rain, to see Sarah and Albon (no kids this time around, as they were up in Paris with grandparents).

When we got there I made myself scarce, as I wanted to follow the end of the AFL game between Hawthorn and Sydney, the last game of the season which would decide finishing positions in the Final 8. The Swans led for most of the game (by up to 26 points), but the Hawks fought back to take the lead halfway though the  final quarter and run out winners 83-74. By doing this, they unexpectedly secured 4th place on the ladder. Not bad for a “rebuilding” season.

Soon it was time for sleeps for all, before having dinner with a very local flavour. Several varieties of “heritage” tomatoes from their garden, Comte cheese made from milk from their cows, plus red wine from the local Jura region.

After dinner, we walked 10 minutes to the farm and checked out the feeding and milking facilities. Unfortunately, it was too dark to get any good photos.
